Simon Chandler - Head Of Recruitment

Simon is a former Chelsea youth team captain who was part of the side that won the South

East Counties Div 1 title and Southern Junior Floodlight cup in the 80s. Simon was a

Schoolboy, Apprentice & 1st year professional with the club over a period of 6 years. Simon

played football for a host of semi-professional clubs in the Berks & Bucks Region as well as

a host of local based Reading teams in Saturday & Sunday football.

Simon went into Management at the early age of 25 and in a 20 year span has won nearly

every Major honour in local football with only the FA Sunday National Cup eluding him.

Recruitment is Simon’s passion, spotting and nurturing young talent. Simon has played an

important role over the years in Grassroots football having scouted close to a hundred young

players with around 30 young players being given Academy contracts.

In his time in football Simon Chandler has been fortunate enough to see some of the finest

young talent in the country and unfortunately not all have fulfilled their potential. This acts

as inspiration for developing Wrightchoice Sports and Wrightchoice CSA (charity arm) as

a devoted service which assists young people in their overall long term development. Not

only their identification and development as potential football players, but also to give them

interests and values that provides a strong basis on which they can build healthy holistic

lifestyles. Simon’s experiences drive the ambition to provide positive activity for children and

young people of all ages, as he has seen the amazing role that sport can play in providing

life chances and opportunities for children and young people in our local community.

In 2012 a very proud moment for Simon was when former Wrightchoice player Dominic

Solanke who Simon scouted at 5yrs of age and who at 7yrs was taken to Chelsea where he

has been playing for the last 8 seasons in the Academy was selected to play for England

U16s, in which he scored on his debut against Wales. Simon has worked in Recruitment for

Chelsea FC, Queens Park Rangers & is currently employed by Reading FC as part of their

Recruitment team.
